63,000 Cases Lined Up as Himachal Gears Up for National Lok Adalat This week
Shimla, May 6: In a major push to reduce court pendency, around 63,000 cases have been identified across Himachal Pradesh for settlement in the upcoming National Lok Adalat scheduled on May 9, 2026.
The Lok Adalat will be held in all courts across the state under the patronage of Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and guidance of Justice Vivek Singh Thakur.
Quoting Member Secretary Ranjeet Singh Thakur, officials said, “We urge the general public and litigants to take full advantage of the National Lok Adalat to settle their disputes amicably. This platform helps save time, reduces litigation costs and ensures speedy justice.”
Officials said special focus is being given to resolving cases related to motor vehicle challans, bank disputes, insurance claims and other compoundable matters.
An online payment facility through ePay (eCourts Digital Payment) has also been enabled, especially for traffic challans pending in courts of Traffic Magistrates.
To ensure maximum participation, awareness campaigns are being carried out through IEC material, local bodies, NGOs, Panchayati Raj institutions, para legal volunteers and public transport networks.
Authorities are also holding regular meetings with bar associations, insurance companies, banks and financial institutions to streamline the disposal process.
The Legal Services Authority has urged media organizations to actively spread awareness so that more people come forward and benefit from this initiative.
