BJP Pushes for CBI Probe in Vimal Negi Death Case, Meets Governor at Raj Bhawan
Shimla, May 28, 2025 — The political heat intensified on Wednesday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted a strong memorandum to Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the suspicious death of Vimal Negi, General Manager at Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL).
Led by Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and State BJP President Dr. Rajiv Bindal, the delegation met the Governor at Raj Bhawan, raising serious questions over the role of top HPPCL officials and alleging foul play.
The party accused senior officers, including MD Harikesh Meena and Director (Electrical) Desh Raj, of mentally harassing Negi, which allegedly pushed him towards an unnatural death.
Negi had gone missing on March 10, and his body was recovered from Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur on March 18.
The family, along with several colleagues, have blamed top officials for creating unbearable work pressure and demanded justice.
“The state government’s action has been questionable from the start. Suspending one officer and transferring the other smacks of selective shielding,” said Jai Ram Thakur.
He further slammed the appointment of an IAS officer to probe complaints against fellow IAS officers, calling it a conflict of interest.
The BJP also urged the Governor to initiate an independent audit of HPPCL’s functioning over the past two years, highlighting alleged irregularities and financial mismanagement in high-value projects like the ₹220 crore Pekhubela Solar Project.
As public anger grew, the Himachal Pradesh High Court took suo motu cognizance and handed over the case to the CBI, citing lapses in the SIT-led probe under Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi.
The court also referred to a fact-finding report and a letter from the DGP, both pointing toward systematic pressure on Negi by senior officials.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has accepted the court’s decision and confirmed that his government will not challenge the CBI probe.
The BJP said it will keep raising the issue until full justice is delivered.

Victory for Devotees: Wildlife Dept Withdraws User Charges for Choorhdhar, But Who Will Clean the Trash?
Shimla/Nauhradhar/Sarahan, May 27:
In a major win for pilgrims and locals, the Wildlife Department has officially withdrawn its controversial user charges for visitors trekking to the Choorhdhar Wildlife Sanctuary — home to the revered Choorheshwar Temple, believed to be the abode of Dev Shirgul.
The department had issued a notification on April 2 mandating user charges for all visitors.
But after strong opposition from locals, religious bodies, and Himbumail's relentless reporting, a fresh notification was issued today, stating that no entry fee or user charges will be levied on pilgrims.
People from across Himachal and even Jaunsar-Bawar in Uttarakhand undertake this sacred journey every year.
The Choorhdhar peak, often dubbed the “Kailash of the Shivaliks,” holds deep spiritual and cultural significance.
The Wildlife Department admitted receiving numerous representations from nambardaris, religious committees, and the Choorhdhar Seva Samiti demanding the rollback. The government finally bowed to public pressure.
But here’s the bigger question – what about the garbage?
Every pilgrimage season, tons of trash — plastic wrappers, bottles, and waste — are left behind on the trekking routes from Kala Bagh to Shivling Top (Sarahan side) and from Nauhradhar to Choorhdhar. The situation is alarming.
Now that the charges are off the table, the Wildlife Department must urgently coordinate with the Seva Samiti and Temple Committee to implement a sustainable trash management plan. Public awareness is crucial. Pilgrims must be encouraged to carry their waste back and respect the sanctity of the mountain.
As one Seva Samiti member told Himbumail, “Bhakti without responsibility is not devotion — it’s destruction.”
Choorhdhar may be free again, but its cleanliness comes at a cost. The onus is now on both the administration and the devotees to keep the abode of Dev Shirgul unpolluted.

"Himachal Ki Beti Preity Zinta Salutes the Unsung Warriors Behind the Uniforms"
Shimla/Jaipur – When Bollywood actor and proud Himachali daughter Preity Zinta walked into the auditorium of the South Western Command during an Army Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) event, she wasn’t just a celebrity on stage — she was a fellow Indian, deeply moved and transformed by the stories of sacrifice etched in every smile, every silence, and every salute in that hall.
Driving in, Preity noticed a trail of posters along the way — portraits of soldiers who had either returned as heroes or become memories wrapped in the tricolour.
“These men were someone’s husbands, sons, brothers, and fathers. They gave up their today for our tomorrow,” she said, visibly emotional.
The moment hit harder as she met the Veer Naris — widows of brave soldiers — and their children inside the auditorium. “There were no tears. Just quiet strength, dignity, and pride. Their smiles hid a thousand sacrifices,” she reflected.
In response to their unshakable courage, Preity Zinta came bearing more than just words of support.
She pledged over ₹1 crore towards the education and welfare of these families — a personal contribution, but also a public reminder. “It was my way of saying thank you — to let them know they’re not forgotten. We are indebted to them forever.”
The actor, who hails from Siao village in Rohru, Shimla district, shared how the event reshaped her perspective:
“We may admire our soldiers in conversations or during national holidays, but the reality is, most of us forget them the next day. Meeting their families changed that for me.”
Preity’s act of kindness and her stirring words have struck a chord across India.
She reminded us that bravery doesn’t always wear a uniform — sometimes, it wears a saree, holds a child’s hand, and quietly keeps the memory of a martyr alive.
“I left with a heart full of gratitude. I know our country is safe because of heroes like these. I’ve done my part — now I hope each one of us finds a way to do theirs,” she said, her voice firm with purpose.
Her message was clear: True patriotism lies not just in saluting the soldier, but in standing beside the families they leave behind.
