SHIMLA: In a recent development, the Trust of Zanjghar,  a neglected prime property located near the Lower Bazaar tunnel in the capital city is set to get a new avatar: Trustees seek at develop it into a "Mini Lahasa", a tourist attraction right below The Ridge. The proposal for this ambitious project is scheduled to be discussed in a Trust meeting on December 9 in Chandigarh.

The initiative, spearheaded by Captain Sud, one of its senior trustee, aims to convert the 1600 sq m prime area into a cultural and tourist hotspot through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The proposal envisions creating an indoctrination architectural Indo Tibetan marvel, promoting tourism in the city.

Captain Sud highlighted the historical significance of the site, emphasizing its potential to become a symbol of India's heritage. He expressed concern about the area's neglect over the past 40 years and stressed the need for revitalization.

The proposed project involves the development of an indo-Tibetan architectural marvel, referred to as a Mini Lahasa, offering a blend of cultural and tourist experiences. However, concerns have been raised about the potential impact on the local community, with suggestions to ensure peaceful coexistence.

The Trust, which has been in a state of limbo, comprises nine trustees, including Captain Sud, who is currently a senior member.

The proposal, if approved, could receive support from the government, aligning with Prime Minister's agenda to promote tourism and cultural heritage.

Captain Sud also touched upon the tragic events in 2009 when tree uprooted and claimed two lives near the lower bazaar tunnel.

He clarified that the area is not sinking but faced challenges due to soil erosion, emphasizing the need for proper stabilization measures.

The Trust's meeting on December 9 is expected to address these issues and pave the way for the development of this forgotten heritage site in Shimla.

The proposal includes incorporating the northern portal of the Lord Bazaar Tunnel into the project, linking it with the Ram Mandir to enhance its significance.

As the Trust seeks to bring attention to this historical site, Captain Sud emphasized the importance of making Shimla the tourism state of India, urging collaboration between public and private entities.

The fate of this heritage site now rests on the outcomes of the upcoming Trust meeting and potential support from the government.
