Cockroaches Have Entered Medical Colleges Too. Dr. Lakshya Mittal Warns Against Toxic Culture in Medical Institutions. Will Government take note?

New Delhi/Chandigarh/Shimla: United Doctors Front Chairperson Dr. Lakshya Mittal has launched a sharp attack on what he described as the growing “toxic culture” inside medical colleges and healthcare institutions across the country.

Reacting strongly, Dr. Mittal remarked that “cockroaches are no longer limited to politics… they have entered medical colleges too,” alleging that several institutions are functioning through fear, harassment and suppression of resident doctors and medical students.

He warned that institutions involved in humiliation, forced resignations, targeting of students or mental harassment should be prepared for RTIs, formal grievances, public exposure and legal action. “Every toxic institution is now under watch,” he asserted.

Dr. Mittal said that deans, heads of departments and concerned administrative units would also face accountability if harassment culture continued unchecked.

He stressed that the era of silently tolerating toxic work environments in medical institutions was coming to an end.

Appealing directly to resident doctors and medical students across India, he urged anyone facing workplace toxicity or pressure to resign over the past six months to connect with UDF.

He claimed that several students who had either attempted suicide or were forced to resign had been supported by the organisation and were now continuing their duties under “work-to-rule” conditions, limited to eight hours a day and 40 hours a week.

The UDF chairperson further said the organisation would intensify clinical, constitutional and legal action against institutions accused of harassment and exploitation.
