SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh The Himachal Pradesh High Court recently imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the state government due to its delayed response regarding the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor at Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur.

This is the second time the court has taken note of the delay after an aggrieved party filed a petition. The petitioner challenged the undue delay in finalizing the appointment, raising concerns over the administration’s handling of this critical post.

The government has yet to provide a solid explanation for the delay, prompting the court to issue a penalty and demand swift action.

A temporary Vice-Chancellor has been holding the post since August 2024, but this interim arrangement has led to administrative uncertainty within the institution.

The High Court has directed the state government to accelerate the process and warned of further consequences if the situation remains unresolved.

The court's firm stance highlights a broader issue of governance in educational appointments, and it expects a prompt response to avoid further penalties.
