Shimla, March 10 – The Himachal Pradesh High Court has directed the state government

to grant a two-year service extension to National Award-winning teacher Bhupender Gupta, overturning the government's denial based on a 2023 policy withdrawal.

Justice Sandeep Sharma ruled that once an entitlement is granted, it cannot be revoked retroactively. Gupta, set to retire on April 30, 2024, was denied an extension despite receiving an additional increment under the 2015 policy, which assured National Award-winning teachers a two-year extension.

The court held that the 2023 policy change could not override Gupta’s 2016 eligibility, ordering the government to reinstate his extension from May 1, 2024, to April 30, 2026, with full benefits.

This sets a major precedent for award-winning educators in Himachal Pradesh.
