BREAKING NEWS | Justice B.R. Gavai to Be Next Chief Justice of India
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has officially approved the appointment of Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai as the 52nd Chief Justice of India (CJI). Justice Gavai will take the oath of office on May 14, 2025, succeeding the incumbent Chief Justice.
Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal made the announcement via social media platform X, confirming that the appointment has been made under the powers vested in the President by the Constitution of India.
Currently serving as a judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Gavai is widely respected for his legal acumen and balanced judgments. His elevation comes at a time when the judiciary is tackling a host of crucial constitutional and social issues.
Justice Gavai will be only the second Dalit CJI in Indian history, after Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, marking another significant moment for representation in the judiciary.
