77 Crore Settled in One Day: National Lok Adalat Clears Over 59,000 Cases in Himachal
Shimla: In a push for clearing the backlogs , the National Lok Adalat held across Himachal Pradesh on Saturday cleared 59,440 cases in a single day, awarding settlements worth over Rs 77.63 crore.
Held under the patronage of Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, and the guidance of Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Executive Chairman of HP State Legal Services Authority (HPSLSA), the Adalat saw 127 benches functioning across the state.
"Out of 1,09,134 cases taken up, over 59,000 were successfully resolved, which speaks volumes about the people's faith in the system and the collective efforts of all stakeholders,” said Member Secretary, HPSLSA, in a statement issued on Saturday.
He added that a special online facility was also provided for payment of compounding fees through the ePay (eCourts Digital Payment) system, especially in cases related to traffic challans.
The Lok Adalat was widely publicised through SMS alerts, awareness jingles, IEC material, and ground-level outreach involving panchayats, para-legal volunteers, transport services and NGOs.
HPSLSA expressed gratitude to the media for their continued support in spreading awareness and contributing to the overwhelming success of the Lok Adalat.
