Supreme Court Orders Status Quo in Trilochan Singh vs State of Himachal Pradesh Case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that the status quo, as it exists today, be maintained with regard to the disputed land property in the case of Trilochan Singh versus State of Himachal Pradesh and others.
A Bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta granted permission to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) against the Himachal Pradesh High Court’s judgment dated August 5, 2025, in CWP No. 1028/2002.
In his plea, Trilochan Singh from Dharamshala has stated that he was allotted land on Patta and had been cultivating it for several decades.
He contended that the Himachal Pradesh High Court passed its order without giving him a hearing, striking down Section 163A of the Act, which he said was in violation of the principles of natural justice.
The apex court also allowed applications seeking exemption from filing the certified copy of the impugned judgment and official translations.
The court directed that a notice be issued, returnable within four weeks, and until further orders, both parties must maintain status quo regarding the suit property.
The case was argued by Advocate-on-Record Vinod Sharma and Advocate Gaurav Kumar for the petitioner, while Senior Advocate Gaurav Agrawal and AOR C. George Thomas represented the respondents.
