BCS Kidnapper Nabbed: Chitta Addict with Nigerian Links Held in Dramatic Kotkhai Rescue

SHIMLA:  Shimla Police on Sunday pulled off a swift, nerve-wracking rescue of three Class 6 boys from Bishop Cotton School (BCS), abducted in broad daylight by an armed former student allegedly into the 'chitta  addiction' and linked to a 'Nigerian gang'.

Police sources revealed that Sumeet Sood, now in custody, was carrying his father’s revolver and driving a Delhi-number car with tampered plates when he intercepted the boys around 12:40 pm on the secluded Khalini–BCS forest road.

Sood, said to be desperate for “quick big money” to fuel his addiction and desire to make quick money, randomly picked the students on their way to The Mall Road, centrally locked the car, taped their mouths and eyes, and drove unchallenged through New Shimla, Dhalli, and other busy areas to his house in Kokunallah near Kotkhai.

Investigators believe the situation could have turned deadly — Sood’s family members were expected to return home soon, and “there were indicators he might have disposed of the children,” a senior officer said.

While police are probing whether this was a solo act or part of a larger ransom plan involving Nigerian contacts, Sood had already used a virtual number from California  to call one or two parents demanding money.

The ransom amount is yet to be confirmed. The police have recovered revolver from him and but didn't reveal whether it was loaded or not.

The boys, held under gunpoint at Sood’s house on Kokunallah road, were freed after local resident Raunak Singh tipped off police about the suspect’s vehicle.

Police teams  moved in fast, overpowering Sood in his house where he had kept the students before he could act.

“This could have been a tragedy. The speed of action saved the children,” police sources said.

The children were in trauma and are   under medical supervision

Meanwhile, parents have slammed BCS management for lax oversight, especially in a city now seeing crimes that were once unheard of.
