Naik Anil Verma Among 5 Army Veterans Honoured for Lifelong Service Beyond Uniform
NEW DELHI/SHIMLA:
In a moving ceremony held in Bhopal on April 17, 2025, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi honoured five distinguished veterans with the prestigious Veteran Achievers Award — a salute to their extraordinary service to society long after they hung up their uniforms.
Among them was Naik Anil Verma (Retd) from Bilaspur, whose journey has touched lives far beyond the battlefield.
After facing challenges in finding a safe hostel for his daughter, Naik Verma converted his ancestral home into a secure hostel for tribal girls. But he didn’t stop there.
In 2017, he established a school for underprivileged and tribal children. What started as a small effort is now a recognised institution under the MP Education Board — delivering a stunning 97% board exam pass rate despite students from modest academic backgrounds.
He’s proven that a soldier’s mission doesn’t end at the border — it begins in the hearts of the people.
Brigadier Ramnarayan Vinayak (Retd)
A quiet force behind the scenes, Brigadier Vinayak has given over 300 ex-servicemen employment through a DGR-sponsored security agency and with support from the Madhya Pradesh Government.
He fought not just battles in warzones, but also for Veer Naris — ensuring they receive medical support and restoration of family pensions. His work has brought dignity and security to those left behind.
Colonel KP Singh (Retd)
He’s not just a decorated officer — he’s the father of Group Captain Varun Singh, Shaurya Chakra (Posthumous), who lost his life in the tragic helicopter crash with General Bipin Rawat.
Now, Col KP Singh wears both medals with pride, carrying forward his son’s legacy.
He has become a pillar for the veteran community — resolving pension issues, life certificate problems, and SPARSH complaints. He also trains youth for SSB interviews free of cost and supports old-age homes and ashrams for polio-affected children with food, beds, and essentials.
Colonel Vaibhav Prakash Tripathi (Retd)
Vice President of the Madhya Pradesh Ex-Servicemen League, Col Tripathi has blended patriotism with education.
He is a key force behind ‘Ojas Shikshan Evam Prashikshan Sansthan’ in Betul, an institute founded by veterans for the rural youth.
The institute trains young boys and girls from remote villages to crack military entrance exams — turning dreams into olive green realities.
Lance Dafadar Pradeep Kalaskar (Retd)
A saviour, a green warrior, a man with a mission.
Despite sustaining 40% burns while saving two women and three children from an LPG fire, he continues to work for veterans — helping them with pensions, financial aid, and support during medical emergencies.
Also a passionate environmentalist, he planted over 1,000 saplings, earning him the title ‘Vrikshamitra’ from Chhindwara administration.
These five veterans are proof that service doesn’t retire — it just changes its uniform.
They’ve taken on new battles — poverty, illiteracy, environmental decay, and systemic red tape — and they’re still winning.
