BJP Calls Raj Bhavan Protest Illegal, Warns of Constitutional Crisis in Himachal
Shimla: The political temperature in Himachal Pradesh has shot up after Youth Congress workers entered the restricted Raj Bhavan zone and burned the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has already expressed unhappiness over the incident.
The BJP has now launched a full-blown attack, calling the protest illegal and unconstitutional.
State BJP President Dr. Rajiv Bindal said the protest was not spontaneous but a deliberate attempt to intimidate the Governor.
“You can’t barge into Raj Bhavan and burn the PM’s effigy — this is illegal,” Bindal said.
He accused the Congress of trying to push the state toward a constitutional breakdown.
“The Congress wants to pressure the Governor into unconstitutional decisions,” he claimed.
indal linked the Raj Bhavan protest to the ongoing conflict between the government and the State Election Commission over the Panchayati Raj elections.
“Even the Election Commission has complained to the Governor — that says everything,” he stated.
The BJP Chief accused the government of muzzling democratic rights of Panchayati Raj representatives by pressuring officials.
“The government is suppressing elected bodies — this is against democracy,” Bindal said.
He also condemned the language used against the Governor and the burning of the PM’s effigy.
> “Insulting the Governor and the Prime Minister is shameful,” he added.
Bindal demanded that the government halt unlawful demonstrations targeting constitutional institutions and maintain dignity and law and order.
With the BJP turning up the heat and the Congress standing firm, the issue is expected to explode inside the Winter Session of the Vidhan Sabha, setting the stage for a fierce political showdown.
