BJP MLA Dr. Janak Raj slams "double standards" – asks, "Are officials out of the Chief Minister's control?"
Shimla, June 14 – Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu finds himself cornered yet again—this time over a blatant contradiction between his public statements and his own government's official orders.
Recently, while addressing locals in Kinnaur, CM Sukhu claimed that the ₹10 OPD slip fee being charged at government hospitals was not a government decision, said Dr Raj.
But documents obtained from the Health Department tell a different story.
A clear order dated June 5, issued by the Special Secretary (Health) to the BMO of Pangi, explicitly directs health officials to charge a ₹10 registration fee from patients visiting government hospitals.
This flies in the face of the Chief Minister’s denial and has sparked outrage in tribal regions like Pangi and Bharmour, he said citing the copy of the order.
Calling out the CM's contradictory stance, BJP MLA Dr. Janak Raj from Bharmour thundered:
"On one hand, the CM is telling people the fee has been withdrawn, while on the other, his own officials are issuing orders to collect it.
This is not just confusion—it’s deception. Are government officers acting independently now? Is the Chief Minister not in control of his own bureaucracy?"
Dr. Janak Raj questioned the rationale behind imposing such a fee in remote and impoverished tribal areas.
"Why are you taxing poor patients in Pangi and Bharmour?
Either the CM should apologise for misleading the public, or take strict action against the officials defying his word," he demanded.
The controversy has not only exposed a credibility crisis within the Sukhu government but also ignited serious concerns over governance and administrative accountability.
For a government that claims transparency and public welfare as its pillars, this episode has raised a critical question: Is the CM being misled by his own team, or is the public being misled by the CM?
