BJP Pushes for CBI Probe in Vimal Negi Death Case, Meets Governor at Raj Bhawan
Shimla, May 28, 2025 — The political heat intensified on Wednesday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted a strong memorandum to Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the suspicious death of Vimal Negi, General Manager at Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL).
Led by Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and State BJP President Dr. Rajiv Bindal, the delegation met the Governor at Raj Bhawan, raising serious questions over the role of top HPPCL officials and alleging foul play.
The Himachal BJP fired a sharp salvo at the Congress-led state government, accusing it of deep-rooted corruption, protecting the guilty, and targeting honest officers.
Thakur alleged CM Sukhu committed contempt of court by publicly opposing a High Court order on May 26. “His frustration and arrogance are now out in the open,” he said.
The BJP claimed the government was stalling CBI investigations, tampering with key evidence like a missing pen drive, ignoring corruption in the Pakhuwala solar project, and shielding accused individuals with anticipatory bail windows.
Honest officers, said Thakur, are being punished—departments snatched, reports buried. BJP also raised concerns over Shimla SP’s explosive press conference against senior officers, suspecting CM’s backing.
BJP Demands:
Secure all evidence in the Vimal Negi case
Punish officers tampering with records
CBI probe into Shimla SP’s charges
Expand CBI/ED probe into Power Corporation scam
Dismiss Shimla SP to restore discipline
BJP said the Sukhu govt has lost its moral right to stay in The party accused senior officers, including MD Harikesh Meena and Director (Electrical) Desh Raj, of mentally harassing Negi, which allegedly pushed him towards an unnatural death.
Negi had gone missing on March 10, and his body was recovered from Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur on March 18.
The BJP also urged the Governor to initiate an independent audit of HPPCL’s functioning over the past two years, highlighting alleged irregularities and financial mismanagement in high-value projects like the ₹220 crore Pekhubela Solar Project.
The court also referred to a fact-finding report and a letter from the DGP, both pointing toward systematic pressure on Negi by senior officials.
The BJP said it will keep raising the issue until full justice is delivered.
