SHIMLA July 9, 2024 -- Voting Tomorrow in Three Himachal Constituencies...

It is widely known that by-elections are being held in three constituencies of Dehra, Hamirpur and Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh.

Voting for these three by-elections will take place tomorrow.

Who will emerge victorious in these elections remains to be seen, but according to information received from media and friends, there is a neck-to-neck contest in all three places.

Both parties, the BJP and the Congress, have put their full strength into the campaign.

While Congress has the power of the government, the BJP relies on its organizational strength.

In this entire election, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur are pitted against each other.

The Congress has accused the BJP of conspiring to topple the government, while the BJP has accused the Congress government of non-performance and failing to satisfy its own MLAs.

In my opinion, after winning four by-elections earlier, the results of these three by-elections may not bring significant changes or impact state politics, but they will certainly test the popularity of the current Sukhu government once again.

Recently, in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress could not win a single seat despite being in power in the state.

The Congress defended itself by saying that their focus was on the by-elections.

In my view, the Congress government does not face any immediate threat from adverse results in these elections

But the government's reputation is certainly at stake, especially for Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh, who faces a big challenge to ensure the victory of his wife, Kamlesh Thakur, from Dehra.

One of the most discussed issues in these three by-elections was why they were happening.

Although both parties blame each other, the public is not satisfied with either explanation.

I have been observing Himachal politics for the last 40 years.

But I am unable to identify the reasons why these independent MLAs felt the need to resign and contest elections again to become MLAs.

According to my analysis, the three former MLAs, now BJP candidates, could not satisfactorily answer the voters' question of why it was necessary to resign and impose these three by-elections on the public.

Now the matter is in the court of the public.

Voters will decide the victory or defeat of these three former MLAs, and in doing so, they will also decide whether they consider their resignations justified or not.

We will have to wait for the election results to find out as what public think about the whole gamut of developments in these three constituencies.
