Marathon at the Roof of the Himachal: Spiti Calls, the Brave Run..with valiantFauji.
KAZA, JULY 20: : Where most journeys end, a new challenge begins.
At the roof of Himachal in the wind-lashed barrenness of Spiti, the Indian Army is calling on the toughest to lace up and run — not just for glory, but for grit.
Welcome to the "𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗬𝗔 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗜 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗚𝗘 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱", a high-altitude marathon that isn't just a test of legs, but of lungs, willpower, and the human spirit.
It is a land of gompas and monasteries where film star of the likes of Sunny Deol mingle freely with the Spiti bellies whenever he goes there for a shoot.
The challenge kicks off with the rocketing Kunzum La Ultra (77 km) on 22 August, followed by:
Full Marathon (42 km) – 24 August
Half Marathon (21 km) – 24 August
10 km Run – 24 August
This is not just a race — it’s a pilgrimage through Himalayan wilderness, with the Indian Army’s Surya Command as your comrades on the trail.
Ramesh, a local adventure enthusiast, a hotelier sums it up:
"This is the only place in Himachal where you can run under a blazing sun even in August.
Spiti is a rain shadow region — no monsoons, no slush, no landslides. Just you, the road, and the mountains.
Kunzum La, the snow-capped Chandra Bhaga peaks, Mulkila guarding over Chandratal — it’s surreal.
The lake itself is a miracle in the mountains, where shepherds, herds, and even snow leopards fight for survival. Now imagine running through that."
Indeed, Spiti offers what few places on earth can — a trail where faith, toughness, and nature run together.
