SHIMLA- The High Court of Himachal Pradesh is concerned about the lack of staff at Government Degree College in Kupvi, Shimla district. They took notice of a newspaper article reporting that the college started last year but still doesn't have any teachers. The court has treated this as a public interest case and asked government officials to respond.

The newspaper mentioned that the college has 72 students but no regular teachers. They hired two private teachers, but they aren't doing a good job.

The college is currently using a storeroom in another school because it doesn't have its own building.

After reviewing the responses from government officials, the court found that the newspaper report was accurate.

All teaching positions, including the Principal and subject teachers, are empty. Non-teaching positions are also vacant.

The court was upset about the situation and questioned whether the college can be called a college without any teachers.

The court ordered the government to fill all the staff positions and make the college fully functional by the next academic session.

They also criticized the principal for taking too long to find land for a college building.

The court suggested transferring teachers from urban areas to Kupvi College. The government has to provide a status report by June 26, 2023.
