UDF launches nationwide campaign to secure 10,000 voluntary organ donation pledges in 1,000 hours

NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH/SHIMLA, JULY 6: In a novel initiative to promote voluntary organ donation and save thousands of lives, the United Doctors Front (UDF) on Monday launched a nationwide campaign titled "1000 Hours – 10,000 Organ Donation Pledges", aiming to secure at least 10,000 voluntary organ donation pledges within 1,000 hours during July and August.

The campaign seeks to transform organ donation into a people's movement. Besides collecting pledges, the initiative will focus on creating nationwide awareness, dispelling myths surrounding organ donation and encouraging families to discuss the life-saving decision of donating organs.

Launching the campaign, UDF Chairperson Dr. Lakshya Mittal underlined the life-changing impact of organ donation. "Organ donation is humanity's most profound gift—the gift of life itself. One organ donor can save multiple lives and positively impact many more. Through this campaign, we aim not merely to achieve 10,000 pledges but to ignite a nationwide movement that encourages every Indian family to have a conversation about organ donation," he said.

The campaign will bring together healthcare institutions and volunteers across India. UDF will collaborate with medical colleges, hospitals, healthcare professionals, educational institutions, youth organisations, NGOs and volunteers to organise organ donation awareness drives, public pledge campaigns, seminars, webinars, social media outreach and community engagement programmes across multiple states.

National transplant authorities have also been approached to support the initiative. UDF has sought guidance and institutional support from the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) and various State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisations (SOTTOs), besides permission to use official awareness material to ensure the campaign is conducted in line with national guidelines and best practices.

Calling upon citizens to join the mission, Dr. Mittal said the campaign's success would ultimately be measured by the lives saved.

He appealed to doctors, medical students, healthcare workers, educational institutions and the general public to become part of the life-saving movement, stressing that organ donation is not merely a medical act but a powerful expression of compassion and humanity.

The campaign carries the message, "Gift Life, Leave a Legacy – 1000 Hours, 10,000 Pledges."
