In a major boost to hydropower development in Arunachal Pradesh, SJVN has disbursed Rs. 269.97 crore as land compensation for the 3097 MW Etalin Hydro Electric Project in Dibang Valley.

The announcement came during a review meeting chaired by the  Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Pema Khandu, in Tawang today.

Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary, Chairman & Managing Director (Additional Charge) of SJVN, informed that the compensation amount was deposited in the joint account of the Deputy Commissioner and District Land Revenue Settlement Officer of Dibang Valley on March 26, 2025.

The meeting was attended by  Deputy Chief Minister Shri Chowna Mein, Chief Secretary Shri Manish Kumar Gupta, Commissioner (Power) Shri Sonam Chombay, Advisor Shri H.K. Paliwal, Secretary (Land Management) Shri A.K. Singh, and other senior officials from the state government and SJVN.

Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu appreciated the collaborative efforts and assured full support from the state government to fast-track clearances for the project’s smooth development.

Speaking at the meeting, Shri  Chaudhary said, “SJVN is deeply committed to the inclusive development of Arunachal Pradesh. This compensation release marks a major step in respecting local communities’ rights while supporting national infrastructure growth.”

SJVN had signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Arunachal Pradesh government on August 12, 2023, for the 3097 MW Etalin Hydro Project, along with four other projects in the state, totalling 5097 MW.

All these projects are located in Dibang Valley and represent an estimated combined investment of around Rs. 60,000 crore.

The Etalin project includes two dams — one on the Dri River and another on the Talo (Tangon) River — and an underground powerhouse complex. It is scheduled for commissioning in December 2033.
