In a rare honour for women, a Seraj woman electrical engineer,  Shubhra was awarded  the doctor of philosophy  (PhD) degree for her research on electrical engineering in the department of electrical engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi at its 52nd  convocation held today.

Shubhra hails from a remote Thatta village in Seraj in Mandi district and is the daughter of Prof Vir Singh Chauhan , a veteran Congress leader. Shubhra  has got a patent to her credit. She has published her research  papers in reputed national and international journals.    

Currently she is working as an assistant profession in the Indraprasth engineering College. She did her research  under Dr Bhim Singh, professor in the department of electrical engineering, IIT Delhi.

Ms  Padamasree Warrior, founder and CEO of Fable, who has been feted as  world’s “100 most powerful women”, by the Forbes for three years running  was the chief guest.  Warrior is an IIT, Delhi alumna.

Shubhra's brother Vijaypal Singh is the Congress leader from Seraj and heads the Congress intellectual cell. “We are proud of our sister as she has brought laurels to the families and the state”, he says.
