Shimla: Red Rice native to  Chauhara Valley in Rohru in Shimla district is  set to get the Genome Savour award to be given by the President of India shortly. 

Lal  Chawal of Chauhara Valley in Chirgaon tehsil of Rohru subdivision  has been grown by the villagers over the  generations. 

The Red Rice has got its unique taste and has its medicinal and organic value."

Red Rice is also grown in pockets in Kullu, parts of Shimla  district and some pockets in Uttarakhand. 

But Chauhara Valley's Red Rice has an unique organic value and taste  

Plant Genome Saviour Committee gives award to the best quality organic crop and plants every year.
