PM Modi lays foundation stone of SJVN’s 200 MW solar power project at Khavda
Shimla, Sept 20: In a push to India’s renewable energy mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually laid the foundation stone of SJVN’s 200 MW Solar Power Project under GUVNL Phase-XVII at Khavda Solar Park in Kachchh, Gujarat.
The ceremony was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel and several Union ministers, including Sarbananda Sonowal, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Chandrakant Raghunath Patil, Shantanu Thakur, and Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya. Senior officials of SJVN, including CMD Bhupender Gupta, Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Finance) Sipan Kumar Garg, and SGEL CEO Ajay Singh also joined virtually.
The Khavda solar project, to be developed at a cost of about ₹866.8 crore, will supply power to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for 25 years at a tariff of ₹2.88 per unit.
Once commissioned by December 31, 2026, it is expected to generate nearly 505 million units in its first year and over 11,620 million units during its 25-year lifecycle, while cutting carbon emissions by about 5.7 lakh tonnes.
The project is also expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities in the Kachchh region, utilizing vast arid land for clean power production and contributing to Gujarat’s renewable energy needs.
SJVN, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, has so far commissioned 14 projects with an installed capacity of 2,968 MW and 123 km of transmission lines.
The company is executing power projects across India and in Nepal, advancing India’s target of achieving 500 GW renewable capacity by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2070.
