Dehradun: In a push towards employment generation, the Skill Development and Employment Department will organise a one-day Rozgar Mela on May 5 at ITI Srinagar (Garhwal), starting at 11 am. For hundreds of job-seeking youth, this could well be an opportunity knocking right at their doorstep.
According to Regional Employment Officer Lansdowne, Uttam Kumar, around 10 to 12 reputed industrial units from the Haridwar belt—primarily from the automobile sector—are expected to participate. Major names include JK Tyre, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Motors, Rockman, Shivam Autotech and Munjal Showa.
The big headline number being projected is 700 to 800 vacancies. But as officials themselves admit, the actual number of jobs on offer may vary depending on company requirements and on-the-spot selection outcomes. That leaves a key question hanging—how many candidates will actually walk away with confirmed jobs?
Eligibility criteria cover a wide range—from high school and intermediate pass candidates to ITI trades such as fitter, machinist, electrician, welder and automobile. Diploma holders in electrical, electronics and mechanical streams, as well as BSc graduates, can also participate.
Candidates have been advised to come prepared with passport-size photographs, updated resumes, all educational certificates and employment registration proof.
While the fair promises scale and access, the real test will be conversion—how many of the hopefuls lining up will actually secure employment by the end of the day.
