3500 Saplings Planted in Sunni as Army, NCC Cadets Lead Green Drive; Call for Schools and Colleges to Follow Suit

SHIMLA, JUNE 28: Setting an inspiring example of environmental stewardship, soldiers of the 133 Ecological Task Force (Territorial Army) Battalion, NCC cadets and members of the Minority Morcha jointly planted 3,500 saplings in and around the Atal Bihari Government Degree College, Sunni, in Shimla district on Sunday.

The plantation drive was carried out by the Alpha Company of the 133 ETF (TA) Battalion in collaboration with the 7 Himachal Pradesh NCC Battalion and the Minority Morcha.

The campaign transformed the college campus and adjoining areas into a green zone while sending a strong message that educational institutions must take the lead in restoring the environment.

Naib Subedar Hardev Singh highlighted the importance of tree plantation and urged students to not only plant saplings but also nurture them.

"A tree survives only when it is cared for. Every student should take responsibility for protecting nature to ensure a cleaner and greener future for the coming generations," he said.

He informed that besides the plantation targets assigned to the 133 ETF (TA) Battalion, the unit has voluntarily set an additional target of planting 75,000 saplings across its area of responsibility.

The ambitious campaign is being carried out with the active participation of schools, colleges, panchayats and local communities to increase green cover and strengthen environmental conservation in Himachal Pradesh.

State President of the Minority Morcha, Gurmeet Singh, lauded the efforts of the battalion and described the initiative as a model of community participation in protecting the environment.

The plantation drive underlined that environmental conservation cannot be left to government agencies alone.

Every school, college and educational institution should launch similar plantation campaigns to make their campuses and surrounding areas greener.

Such initiatives not only improve the environment but also instil a lifelong sense of responsibility towards nature among young people.

The joint effort by the Army, NCC cadets and community members demonstrated how collective action can contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.
