Even After ED Crackdown on Himachal's New 'Drug Don' Nishant Sareen, Big Questions Remain Unanswered
Shimla/Chandigarh, June 27:
Even after four days of sustained search ops, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has finally blown the lid off what appears to be a deep-rooted pharma-corruption racket run by none other than Himachal’s own “Drug Don” — Nishant Sareen, Assistant Drug Controller, Dharamshala, and formerly posted in the pharma-rich zone of Baddi.
But as dust settles on the high-profile raids, the people of Himachal are asking — is this the end of the chain or just the beginning?
Because while the ED may have nailed Sareen, the bigger fish — his political godfathers — are still out of reach.
The ED’s two-day operation on June 22 and 23 across seven locations linked to Sareen and his relatives/associates recovered:
Drug licenses, show cause notices and clearances issued to pharma companies — documents that could reveal how deep the corruption went.
Property papers pointing to real estate investments disproportionate to known income.
Digital devices loaded with evidence the ED is now analysing.
Two luxury vehicles worth ₹32 lakh parked in his driveway.
Over 40 bank accounts and FDRs across financial institutions — now frozen, reveal ED.
Three lockers full of who-knows-what, under ED's scrutiny.
More than 60 bottles of prime, branded liquor stashed in his plush Omaxe Cassia flat in New Chandigarh — a clear violation and symbol of his lavish lifestyle.
His stockpile of liquor looks like as if he was running branded Liquor bar in his home, reveals officials.
Despite this mountain of evidence, one thing remains clear — Sareen didn’t build this empire alone. The people of Himachal want to know:
Who protected him?
Why did the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau turn a blind eye?
Will the ED and CBI go beyond the officer and name the netas who gave him a free run?
More chilling is the question about the drug licenses he approved. Were those medicines safe? Or are lives being risked in hospitals and markets due to compromised quality and overlooked regulations?
As Himachal watches, the real question echoes louder: Will accountability stop at Sareen, or climb the political ladder he once danced on?
