Flash Flood Wreaks Havoc in Mayar Valley, Two Bridges Washed Away
Udaipur: Lahaul-Spiti’s Udaipur Subdivision was jolted on Wednesday when a sudden flash flood in the Mayar nallah swept away two bridges and sent gushing waters into houses downstream.
Preliminary reports suggest a sharp rise in temperature and rains in the cold desert triggered rapid melting of glaciers in the higher valleys and mountain passes, unleashing the deluge.
The government has signed MoU with the Jharkhand government to execute the Mayar Nallah power project.
While no casualties or major damage were reported from other parts of the subdivision, the affected villages downstream faced heavy flooding and disruption in connectivity.
Authorities are assessing the damage and monitoring the situation closely as locals brace for further glacier melt in the coming days.
