Kullu, April 4:

What began as a scenic journey through the Banjar and Jhibi valleys  of Himachal Pradesh ended in tragedy on Saturday, when a tourist vehicle plunged off the road near Jaloda Mod in Sojha, under Banjar tehsil of Kullu district.

According to inputs from the Police Control Room Kullu, the ill-fated vehicle (DL1BC 4958) was carrying 22 passengers — 20 adults and two children — when it lost control and fell into a deep gorge along the treacherous stretch.

In a race against time, rescue teams battled difficult terrain to pull out survivors.

So far, 18 injured passengers have been rescued and rushed to the Civil Hospital in Banjar, where they are undergoing treatment.

However, the accident claimed four lives on the spot — two men and two women — casting a shadow of grief over what was meant to be a peaceful getaway in the hills.

The rescue operation saw a coordinated effort by the district administration, police, revenue officials, fire services, health department, and local residents.

Eyewitnesses said villagers were among the first to reach the spot, helping authorities in evacuating the injured.

Officials confirmed that search and verification operations are still underway to rule out any discrepancies and ensure no one remains unaccounted for.

The accident once again highlights the risks associated with hill travel, especially on narrow and winding roads like those leading to Sojha, a popular tourist destination known for its breathtaking views but equally challenging driving conditions.

Authorities are expected to issue further updates as details emerge, while the administration has assured all possible support to the victims and their families.
