Himachal Pradesh has taken a decisive step towards a clean and self-reliant future with the establishment of the state’s first green hydrogen–based mobility station in Chamba.
The pioneering facility, coming up in Chamba, will produce around 20 kilograms of green hydrogen per day, marking a major milestone in Himachal’s transition to sustainable and low-carbon energy solutions.
The project is being seen as a foundation stone for a cleaner transport ecosystem in the hill state.
Reducing fuel dependence, cutting pollution
The green hydrogen produced at the station will be used for mobility purposes, helping reduce the state’s dependence on petrol and diesel. Officials say this will directly contribute to lowering vehicular emissions, improving air quality and preserving the fragile mountain ecology.
“With clean hydrogen replacing fossil fuels, the initiative will help safeguard the pristine air of the Himalayas while promoting climate-friendly transport,” sources in the energy department said.
Employment and technology boost
Beyond environmental gains, the project is expected to generate new employment opportunities for local youth, particularly in operations, maintenance and technical services.
It will also encourage the adoption of advanced clean-energy technologies in remote and hilly regions.
The government believes that such projects will help build local expertise in emerging sectors like green hydrogen, positioning Himachal’s youth at the forefront of the energy transition.
Himachal’s green leadership
The Chamba mobility station aligns with the state government’s broader vision of eco-friendly growth and inclusive development.
By leveraging renewable energy resources and promoting green fuels, Himachal Pradesh aims to emerge as a leading state in the green energy landscape.
