Heavy Rain Likely in Parts of Himachal: IMD Issues Advisory for Farmers and Tourists

Shimla, July 27:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shimla, has forecast heavy rain activity in parts of Himachal Pradesh over the coming days, warning of potential disruptions due to a strong monsoon system and active western disturbances.

According to the IMD’s latest weather bulletin, the monsoon trough is currently passing through key regions including Suratgarh, Jaipur, and northwest Madhya Pradesh, extending to the east-central Bay of Bengal.

Simultaneously, a cyclonic circulation persists over Punjab and Haryana at 1.5 km above mean sea level. A western disturbance is also active as a cyclonic circulation between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level in the Jammu & Kashmir region.

What it Means for Himachal:

Possibility of intense rainfall in isolated pockets, especially in districts like Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, Kangra, and Shimla.

Manali and Jubberhatti already received significant rainfall in the past 24 hours — 11 mm and 10 mm respectively — while Narakanda and Bajaura also saw 5.5 mm and 6.5 mm rain.

Temperature Update:

Kukumseri was the coldest in the state this morning at 12.8°C, while Paonta Sahib scorched at 39.0°C, the highest maximum temperature recorded on Saturday.

Shimla recorded a minimum of 18.5°C and a maximum of 26.0°C with light showers.

Advisory for Farmers: Farmers are advised not to irrigate crops for the next 2–3 days as the forecasted rain will sufficiently meet water requirements.

Avoid applying fertilizers or pesticides during this wet spell as they may wash away. Hail-prone districts should take precautions to protect apple and vegetable crops.

Caution for Tourists: Tourists heading to hill destinations like Manali, Dalhousie, and Shimla are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and avoid venturing near rivers and landslide-prone areas.

Landslides and road blockages are likely in mid and high hill regions due to continuous rainfall.

The IMD has categorized the rainfall as light to moderate in most places, but has warned of isolated heavy showers, especially in the mid-hills and foothills.
