Himachal on Rain Alert: Nangal Dam, Raipur Maidan Record 200+ mm
Shimla, Sept 1: Monsoon tightened its grip on Himachal Pradesh with extremely heavy rain lashing several districts, triggering warnings of more downpours in the next 48 hours.
The heaviest showers were reported from Nangal Dam (220 mm) and Raipur Maidan (215 mm), followed closely by Naina Devi (192 mm), Solan (187 mm) and Nahan (177.8 mm).
The Meteorological Centre, Shimla has warned of extremely heavy rain at isolated places and heavy to very heavy rainfall at many locations today and tomorrow.
The wet spell is expected to continue till September 3, before easing out gradually.
🌩️ Districts Drenched
Sirmaur: Nahan (177.8 mm), Dadahu (134 mm) and Paonta Sahib (109.6 mm) bore the brunt.
Solan: Recorded 187 mm rainfall, one of the highest in the state.
Shimla: Pounded by 115.8 mm of rain along with thunderstorm activity.
Una: Heavy showers at 117.4 mm, disrupting normal life.
Bilaspur: Berthin logged 102 mm, Bilaspur town 80.8 mm.
Kullu: Rohru (130 mm), Jubberhatti (108 mm), Karsog (81.2 mm) and Narkanda (75 mm) were among the worst hit.
Kangra: Palampur and Dharamshala saw thunderstorms though rainfall remained moderate.
Temperatures Tumble
The downpour led to a marked fall in maximum temperatures — 5 to 8°C below normal in most towns. Kukumseri was the coldest at 7.3°C, while Paonta Sahib remained the warmest at 28°C.
Gusty winds up to 44 kmph were reported from Dhaulakuan, while thunderstorms lashed Shimla, Kangra, Palampur, Murari Devi and Sundernagar.
Advisory
The Met department has cautioned of landslides, flash floods and waterlogging in low-lying areas of Solan, Sirmaur, Shimla, Bilaspur and Una.
Farmers have been advised to hold back harvest, while tourists and yatris have been urged to avoid trekking routes and river banks.
