Shimla:
Himachal Pradesh’s Transport Department has undergone a major digital transformation, recording a 75 per cent jump in revenue over the past three years while rolling out faceless and automated services, Mukesh Agnihotri, said on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference, the Deputy Chief Minister said the department collected ₹2,744 crore between January 2023 and February 2026, compared to ₹1,564.76 crore during the previous government’s corresponding tenure.
“This growth reflects transparency, better compliance and technology-driven enforcement, not harassment of citizens,” Agnihotri said, adding that automation has reduced delays, discretion and corruption in service delivery.
He said the state also earned ₹80.82 crore through e-auction of fancy vehicle numbers, with the special registration number ‘0001’ alone fetching ₹4.44 crore since public bidding began in November 2023.
Digital auctions, he said, have strengthened non-tax revenue while ensuring complete transparency.
Agnihotri said permit-related services, including goods carriage, national permit, contract carriage and tourist permits, are now being processed through faceless, auto-approval systems, significantly reducing the need for repeated visits to RTO offices.
The government has also fulfilled a key poll promise by extending the validity of All India Tourist Permits from 12 to 15 years, providing long-pending relief to taxi operators.
He added that mobile-based digital vehicle fitness checks, e-detection at toll plazas and ITMS-enabled traffic enforcement have made the system data-driven and tamper-proof. “Our objective is clear—transparent services, strict enforcement and zero tolerance for corruption,” he said.
