Army Voice of Spiti in Giu

Giu (Spiti):

The Indian Army has launched a new community radio station, “Voice of Spiti”, at Giu (also known as Gue) village in the high-altitude Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh.

The initiative was dedicated to the people of the region by Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, GOC-in-C, Surya Command.

This is the second community radio station established by the Indian Army in the border areas of Himachal Pradesh.

The project aims to strengthen communication, promote local culture, and serve as a grassroots platform for news, education, health, and public information.

Lt Gen Sengupta, accompanied by Mrs Ruchira Sengupta, Regional President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), interacted with villagers and assured them of the Army’s full support in the area’s development.

The Army described the initiative as a bridge between the local population and security forces — preserving Spiti’s cultural heritage while empowering its people through information access.
