Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan Appointed Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court
Big Moment for Himachal Judiciary; Notification Issued by Centre

In a significant development for Himachal Pradesh’s judiciary, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, senior-most judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.
The Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, issued a formal notification in this regard today.
Justice Chauhan’s elevation has come as a proud moment for Himachal Pradesh.
He had previously served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, and is widely respected for his sharp legal acumen, integrity, and deep understanding of constitutional law.
Born on January 9, 1964, Justice Chauhan hails from Rohru in Shimla district. He completed his law degree from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and was enrolled as an Advocate in 1986.
He practiced in the Himachal Pradesh High Court for nearly 26 years, dealing with civil, constitutional, environmental, and service law cases.
He was elevated as a Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on February 23, 2014.
Over the years, he has delivered several landmark judgments, particularly in matters concerning forest conservation, land rights, administrative accountability, and public interest litigations (PILs).
His strong voice on environmental protection and ethical governance earned him a reputation both inside and outside the courtroom.
A Judicious Rise
Justice Chauhan’s tenure as Acting Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court had earlier showcased his leadership capabilities.
His appointment to head the Jharkhand High Court is being seen as a recognition of his vast experience and unwavering commitment to justice.
A Moment of Pride for Himachal
The legal fraternity in Himachal has welcomed the decision. Advocates and judicial officers have termed it a proud moment for the state and a recognition of the high standards set by the Himachal judiciary.
"Justice Chauhan’s elevation is not just an individual achievement but reflects the intellectual depth and moral fibre of our judicial system," said a senior advocate from the Shimla Bar Association.
He is expected to take charge in Jharkhand shortly.
