Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami hailed this decision as "the beginning of a new era of equality and harmony," emphasizing that the initiative would ensure justice and uniformity in society.

Speaking on the launch of UCC here today, CM Dhami said, "From the land where the Ganga originates, this unending stream of equality will now flow across the nation. Uttarakhand’s initiative will eliminate discrimination and inequality, ensuring equal rights for every individual."

He termed the UCC as the foundation of development, offering the people of the state a strong base for justice and transparency.
What is the Uniform Civil Code?
The UCC aims to establish a common set of laws governing marriage, divorce, inheritance, and property rights for all citizens, irrespective of their religion, caste, or gender.

How It Began

The journey toward implementing the UCC in Uttarakhand began in 2022 when CM Dhami announced this initiative.

A special expert committee was then formed, comprising retired judges, legal experts, and social activists.

The committee sought inputs and suggestions from various communities before drafting the framework for the UCC.

Why Is It Historic?

While the idea of a Uniform Civil Code has long been debated, Uttarakhand is the first state to turn this vision into reality. Experts believe this step will not only promote social harmony but also inspire other states to follow suit.

Support and Concerns

The decision has received widespread support, though certain groups have raised concerns.

Addressing these, CM Dhami said, "This law is not against any particular community. It reflects our commitment to providing equal rights and justice to every citizen."

To ensure smooth implementation, the government has launched a dedicated portal (ucc.uk.gov.in) where citizens can share their feedback and suggestions.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that this initiative would strengthen Uttarakhand socially and legally.
With this historic step, Uttarakhand has set a precedent that could pave the way for other states to embrace the idea of equality and justice for all.

Chief Secretary Raturi  said the government has created a committee to spread its awareness through a team of over 10,000 people to take it to the door of every citizens.
