Shimla, March 10: Eminent scholars and philosophers on Tuesday underlined that the thoughts of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan remain profoundly relevant in today’s value-starved and conflict-ridden world, as a two-day international seminar concluded at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) at Rashtrapati Nivas.

The seminar, titled “Darśana of Radhakrishnan: Eternal and Temporal,” brought together noted philosophers, academicians and researchers from India and abroad to deliberate on the enduring philosophical legacy of Radhakrishnan and its relevance in the contemporary global context.

In his address, IIAS Director Prof. Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi said Radhakrishnan’s philosophy represents a rare synthesis of India’s spiritual wisdom and modern intellectual thought. He noted that at a time when societies across the world are grappling with a crisis of values, Radhakrishnan’s ideas on ethics, spirituality and humanism provide meaningful guidance.

Delivering the valedictory lecture, Prof. Paneer Selvam described Radhakrishnan as a powerful bridge between Indian and global intellectual traditions. He emphasized that his philosophical vision continues to inspire debates on ethics, cultural dialogue and the future of civilization.

Presiding over the session, Prof. Shashi Prabha Kumar said Radhakrishnan’s thought embodies the universal spirit of Indian philosophy and strengthens ideals of spiritual unity and cultural coexistence for humanity.

Earlier, Fellow IIAS Prof. Muktikant Mohanty welcomed the participants, while Dr. S. Ranganath presented a report on the deliberations held during the seminar. Scholars presented papers on various aspects of Radhakrishnan’s philosophy including his interpretation of Vedanta, reflections on the Bhagavad Gita, educational philosophy and his vision for the future of civilization.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rajeev Kumar Mishra. Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Akhilesh Pathak. The seminar ended with the singing of Vande Mataram followed by the National Anthem.
