After IGMC Clash, Chaos at Tanda Medical College Raises Question for Health Minister: Bring Faculty Association,  IMA, RDA and MLAs  and hospital administration on board to find solutions to problem.

SHIMLA/DHARAMSHALA: SOON after the doctor patient clash at IGMC Shimla, Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda has come under focus over disturbing scenes from its Emergency ward.

A viral video shows severe overcrowding and lack of control inside a critical care area.

Doctors are seen working in an unsafe and hostile environment.

The Emergency is packed with attendants and bystanders.

People are recording videos, arguing with doctors and issuing instructions.

Treatment areas appear unregulated and chaotic.

Several persons in the video demand the immediate presence of senior doctors.

Junior and senior residents on duty are questioned and pressured.

Doctors say such interference disrupts emergency treatment.

Junior Residents and Senior Residents say they feel exposed to physical harm.

They say focus shifts from patients to self protection.

Emergency duty, they say, has become a high risk assignment.

Doctors say conditions at Tanda reflect what exists at IGMC Shimla.

Emergency and ward areas there also remain overcrowded beyond allowed limits.

The recent clash at IGMC has underlined this long standing problem.

After the IGMC incident, the Resident Doctors Association approached the administration.

The RDA pointed out repeated confrontations and lack of security.

Doctors say those concerns did not translate into visible action.

Doctors question why entry into Emergency wards remains uncontrolled.

They ask why the one attendant per patient rule is not enforced.

They also point to the absence of security staff at critical points.

The Indian Medical Association has drawn criticism from resident doctors.

They say the IMA has not guided hospital administrations during tense situations.

They say the IMA has failed to support doctors on the ground.

The issue has surfaced while a PIL by the United Doctors Front on the 48 hour weekly duty limit is under hearing.

Resident doctors allege the IMA is instead advocating longer duty hours.

They warn exhaustion and chaos together increase risk for patients.

Medical professionals say unsafe hospitals lead to unsafe care.

They warn that continued inaction will trigger more confrontations.

They say accountability can no longer be delayed.

A direct question is now being asked of Health Minister Dr Dhani Ram Shandil, who has failed to enforce norms in the crowded  hospitals.

Who will enforce order, discipline and norms at Tanda, IGMC and other medical colleges when the Health Secretary has remained indifferent for the past three years.

Doctors say the system needs leadership, not silence and indifference as is the case now.

READERS REACTIONS: Why can't we enforce a system that prevails in PGI. System works there and here in IGMC system is always breached by influential people. Queue jumping is a common phenomenon in OPDs, labs, availability of beds and special rooms. Even doctors are not accessible without connections.
