SHIMLA: Er Jaswant Singh has been elected as the President of the Institution of Engineers India (IEI), Himachal Pradesh State Centre, for a two-year term.

His election was confirmed during the recent 272nd meeting of the State Executive.

Dr (Er) Dinesh Kumar Vatsa has also been elected as the Honorary Secretary for the next two years.

Their terms will officially begin after the current executive’s tenure ends on October 31.

Founded in 1920 and incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935, the Institution of Engineers India is the country’s largest professional body for engineers, boasting over 2 lakh members across 15 core engineering disciplines.

Headquartered in Kolkata, the institution plays a vital role in offering technical and professional support to governments, local bodies, and industries.

It operates across 124 centres in India and abroad. The Himachal Pradesh State Centre, established as a sub-centre in 1974, has been functioning as a full-fledged State Centre since 1988, contributing to the development of technology in the region.

Er Jaswant Singh, after being elected as the President, expressed his gratitude to the executive members.

"I am deeply thankful to all the members for their trust. My main goal will be to elevate the dignity and stature of this prestigious institution," Singh said.

Echoing similar sentiments, Dr (Er) Dinesh Kumar Vatsa, the newly elected Honorary Secretary, also expressed his appreciation.

"The Institution will continue to lead and guide its professional members and young graduates towards success," Vatsa  stated.

Outgoing Chairman Er Vishwa Mohan Joshi lauded the efforts of the new leadership.

"The Himachal Pradesh State Centre has always played a key role in fostering technology development, and I am confident that this tradition will be further strengthened under the new leadership," he remarked.
