Shimla/Mandi:
The world-famous festival of colours, Holi, unfolded in spectacular fashion across Himachal Pradesh, with celebrations stretching from the temple town of Mandi to the breathtaking heights of Sangla Valley in tribal Kinnaur district.

While Holi marked its official beginning across the state, it was Sangla Valley that stole the show, emerging as the most colourful and culturally rich celebration of the festival.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Greater Himalayan range, the valley turned into a riot of colours as locals and tourists celebrated Holi together in a uniquely tribal style.

The festivities began with a traditional procession from the revered Nag Devta Temple. As per centuries-old custom, the procession moved from one village to another, carrying the spirit of Holi across the valley.

Men and women alike joined the celebrations, smearing colours, dancing to rhythmic beats, and sharing a mild traditional local drink  Faak that added warmth and cheer to the festivities.

What fascinated tourists the most was this rare, community-driven celebration—where ritual, music, and joy blended seamlessly.

Traditional musicians played drums and cymbals, their rolling tunes echoing through the valley, while tribal dances performed by both men and women added raw energy to the procession.

Amid snow-clad peaks, dense forests, apple orchards, and the sweeping landscape Sangla is known for, Holi took on an entirely new character—intimate, cultural, and deeply rooted in tradition.

Visitors from across the country joined the locals, soaking in colours and customs, making the festival a shared celebration of joy and harmony.

This year, Holi in Sangla Valley was not just a festival—it was an experience, where nature, tradition, and celebration came together in full bloom.
