Shimla/Dehradun: In a move to protect citizens from increasing cyber frauds, the Cybercrime Police has issued an urgent advisory against fraudulent calls. Scammers are now targeting individuals with alarming claims, often threatening "digital arrest" to extort money or personal information.

These calls, primarily originating from numbers starting with +85, +91, or +97, are designed to panic unsuspecting users. The police have confirmed that these are fake and fraudulent attempts by cybercriminals.

What Should You Do?

If you receive such a call:

1. Do not panic and disconnect immediately.

2. Do not share personal information, such as bank details or OTPs.

3. Report the incident promptly by:

Dialing the 1930 helpline

Visiting cybercrime.gov.in

The advisory comes amid reports of scammers using this new modus operandi to trick individuals. Other flagged numbers include those starting with 81, 87, and similar prefixes.

Cyber Safety First

The Himachal Pradesh Police, along with the national Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, is running awareness campaigns under hashtags like #AapkaCyberDost, #FraudCall, #CyberCrime, and #SafeDigitalIndia. Citizens are being urged to "Stop, Think, Take Action" before responding to unknown or suspicious calls.

Main Takeaway

Remain alert and cautious. Protect yourself by reporting fraudulent calls at 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in. The police emphasize the importance of public participation in identifying and curbing such cyber frauds.

For detailed guidelines, visit the official cybercrime section of the HP Police website or follow updates on their social media platforms. Stay safe, stay vigilant!
