Shimla: In a major policy shift, the Himachal Pradesh government has withdrawn the electricity subsidy for Group A and B service professionals, officers, pensioners, and Class 1 and 2 employees, including those working in state and central government departments, boards, corporations, and offices. Consumers in these categories will now be charged commercial rates instead of domestic tariffs, starting February 1, 2024.

The government has directed the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (HPERC) to issue an order implementing this decision.

This move is expected to significantly impact thousands of consumers, particularly high-income groups, as the state aims to cut down on power subsidy expenses.
