Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania has constituted a seven-member committee, including three Cabinet Ministers and four MLAs, two of whom represent the opposition BJP.

The committee's task is to formulate a comprehensive Street Vendors Policy for the state, following public concerns over unauthorized vendors, especially in Shimla.

Allegations have surfaced that many of these vendors are outsiders with no valid identity proof, and some are suspected of engaging in illegal activities.

The situation has raised alarm among residents, particularly in Shimla, where public spaces are increasingly being occupied by street vendors, hindering pedestrian movement.

The committee will submit its report to the government after conducting public consultations.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had previously announced the need for such a policy during the Vidhan Sabha session, following the state wide protest over controversial masjids and concern over the rising number migrant laborers,  vendors in Himachal Pradesh.
