SHIMLA: In connection with the infamous Rs 1.13 crore tanker water supply scam in Theog subdivision, the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has intensified its probe.
Statements of the SDM Theog and others have been recorded, while residents of Matiana, Galu, and Theog have been questioned to uncover the alleged misuse of funds meant for supplying water to drought-hit areas last year.
The scam, which has left locals fuming, revolves around allegations that water tankers were fraudulently billed under the guise of addressing severe water shortages during the drought.
The issue gained traction after former Theog MLA Rakesh Singha and CPM workers accused officials and contractors of colluding to siphon off public funds.
In a bid to clamp down on corruption, the government has already suspended 11 Jal Shakti engineers linked to the case.
However, demands for stricter action have grown louder, with CPM leaders insisting that all those involved, including the contractors, must face justice.
“The government must act decisively to send a strong message. This isn’t just a case of financial fraud—it’s a betrayal of people who struggled for basic water in their toughest time,” said Rakesh Singha, slamming the administration's initial inaction.
The government has directed vigilance teams to expedite their investigation and submit a comprehensive report. The findings are expected to determine the fate of the officials and contractors involved.
