MANDI:  IIT Mandi is shaking up engineering education with its new B.Tech. in General Engineering.

This innovative program lets students customize their studies, choosing their specialization or crafting their own academic path to match their interests.

In the first two years, students explore a wide range of engineering fields, from Mechanical and Civil Engineering to Data Science and Computer Science, building a solid foundation.

After this broad introduction, they can specialize in a field of their choice.

What's unique is the chance to study not just at IIT Mandi but also at partner institutions worldwide.

Collaborations with Dalarna University in Sweden, the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute in Bengaluru, and NIFT Kangra offer specializations in areas like Energy Engineering, Manufacturing, Fashion Design, and Animation.

Back at IIT Mandi, students can dive into fields like AI and Robotics, Cybersecurity, and Advanced Manufacturing.

There's even an option for a dual degree with an MBA, making the program versatile and comprehensive.

Dr. Satvasheel Ramesh Powar, the program coordinator, highlighted the practical edge of the curriculum.

"We're working with industry partners to ensure our courses meet current industry standards," he said.

"Students will work on capstone projects and internships, blending academic learning with professional practice."

This blend of academic rigor and real-world experience means graduates will be well-prepared for the job market, with skills tailored to industry needs.

With a focus on practical training and industry collaboration, IIT Mandi's new B.Tech. program promises to open up exciting career opportunities for its students.
