A dispute over the legality of a mosque and madrasa in Sanjauli has reached the Shimla MC Court, with local residents filing an application against the Waqf Board's claim on the land.
The case revolves around conflicting statements regarding the ownership and purpose of the land where the mosque stands.
Residents allege that illegal construction, including a five-storey building, has been carried out without any approvals.
They claim that the "mastermind" behind this illegal activity is running a madrasa and shelter wrong doers within the mosque premises and had encroached upon additional rooms.
The keys to these rooms were reportedly confiscated by authorities a few days ago.
The residents have raised concerns about suspicious activities taking place in the building, which they say has been expanded without proper authorization.
They demand that the illegal construction be demolished, and utility services such as water and electricity be cut off immediately, as is standard practice in other illegal cases.
In court, the mosque committee head admitted to constructing only two floors but failed to provide any explanation for the additional stories.
Moreover, no clear records were presented by the Waqf Board to support their claim that the land belongs to them. As per government records, the land is categorized as "Gair Mumkin Masjid."
The court has sought a status report from Shimla MC's Junior Engineer, who allegedly failed to act on the illegal construction.
The next hearing is scheduled for October 5, where more clarity is expected on the case. Residents remain adamant that action must be taken against the illegal structures and activities in the area.
