New Delhi/Shimla:

The Indian Armed Forces have made a new leap under the Quantum Technology Mission, marking what the military leadership describes as a “quantum jump” in the way future wars will be fought and won across the world.

Releasing the Military Quantum Mission Policy Framework, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan said the document lays the foundation for bringing cutting-edge quantum technologies into the Army, Navy and Air Force in a structured and integrated manner.

“Quantum technologies will be a decisive force multiplier in future battlefields.

This framework is aimed at preparing our Armed Forces for the wars of tomorrow by achieving technological dominance through secure communication, faster decision-making and superior sensing capabilities,” the CDS said.

Army explains that  quantum technology works at the smallest level of matter and energy and offers capabilities far beyond conventional systems.

The policy focuses on four critical areas.

Quantum communication will ensure near-unbreakable security of military data, making enemy interception almost impossible.

Quantum computing will enable rapid processing of complex battlefield information, giving commanders faster and more accurate decision-making tools.

Quantum sensing will allow early detection of enemy submarines, missiles and stealth platforms, while quantum materials will help develop lighter, stronger and smarter defence equipment.

The framework aligns the military’s plans with India’s National Quantum Mission and stresses civil-military fusion, encouraging close collaboration between the Armed Forces, scientific institutions, startups and multiple government agencies.

It also underlines the importance of jointness, ensuring that all three services adopt quantum technologies in a coordinated manner rather than in isolation.

The release of the policy, attended by the Chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, signals India’s determination to stay ahead in the global race for next-generation military technologies.

With this initiative, India has taken a decisive step towards reshaping its defence preparedness, where technology, speed and precision will define victory on the future battlefield.
