CJ HP High Court swearing in ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Shimla

Shimla, 25 September 2024: Justice Rajiv Shakdher took oath as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court today in a ceremony at Raj Bhavan. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla administered the oath in the presence of top dignitaries.

Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena oversaw the formal proceedings, reading out the Warrant of Appointment issued by the President of India.

Notable attendees included Lady Governor Janaki Shukla, Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, senior judges, Congress President Pratibha Singh, BJP President Rajiv Bindal, Advocate General Anup Kumar Rattan, DGP Dr. Atul Verma, and State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice P.S. Rana.

**Justice Rajiv Shakdher Takes Charge as Chief Justice of HP High Court**

Justice Rajiv Shakdher was warmly welcomed as the new Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in a ceremony attended by prominent judicial figures and members of the legal fraternity.

Speaking at the event, Chief Justice Shakdher assured that his doors are open to redress grievances without discrimination.

Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan praised Justice Shakdher for his landmark judgments, integrity, and efforts to clear case backlogs. “He is known for his intelligence and hard work, always delivering expeditious judgments with courtesy and a willingness to listen,” said Justice Chauhan.

Born on 19th October 1962, Justice Shakdher holds degrees in B.Com (Hons.), CA, and LL.B. He began his legal career in 1987 and has handled cases in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court, specializing in civil, constitutional, taxation, and corporate law. 

After being appointed an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in 2008 and becoming a permanent judge in 2011, he served at the Madras High Court before returning to Delhi in 2018.

Advocate General Anup Rattan, Bar Council Chairman Lovneesh Kanwar, and other senior legal personalities were also present. The Registrar General conducted the proceedings.
