Leading the charge is ward councilor Ram Ratan Verma, who has urged residents to come forward with any information on drug-related activities to help bring the culprits to book.
Verma’s zero-tolerance campaign against the drug menace is gaining momentum, with locals lauding the initiative as a much-needed step to save the city’s youth.
His call-to-action has sparked a debate on the need for other councilors, as well as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, to replicate this drive in their respective wards, turning the fight against drugs into a city-wide mission.
“The proliferation of tuition and coaching centers, along with paying guest accommodations in areas like BCS, New Shimla, Chotta Shimla, and Sanjauli, has turned these suburbs into prime targets for drug peddlers.
Thousands of young students from school and coaching shops frequent these areas, becoming soft targets for smugglers.
Sadly, coaching shop owners, who are more interested in making big bucks from their hefty fees, wash their hands of any responsibility when their students fall into the trap,” said residents.
In a message to the people of Kagnadhar, Verma stated, “If you have any information about drug peddlers or spot suspicious individuals, please inform me immediately so action can be taken without delay.
"Share their mobile numbers or residence addresses if available. I have launched a zero-tolerance movement against chitta suppliers, consumers, and peddlers in the ward", Verma said.

As Verma’s campaign picks up steam, the question remains: Will other ward councilors rise to the occasion and wage their own wars against drugs?
The time has come for the Shimla Municipal Corporation, led by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, to step up and turn this initiative into a city-wide movement—because saving the youth of Shimla can no longer wait.
