A committee was led by Jagat Singh Negi, which visited a cannabis cultivation farm in Doiwala, Uttarakhand today.

They wanted to study whether cannabis cultivation for industrial and non-narcotic purposes would be viable in the state.

During the visit, the committee learned about cannabis farming, its uses, different varieties, and the complexities involved. They also inspected the cannabis fields and saw how the farm operated.

The committee gathered information about the marketing of cannabis products in the market. The farm's representative explained the technical and legal aspects of cannabis production and marketing.

The committee discussed the benefits of cannabis cultivation for the government and growers. They also talked about the legal provisions and the support provided to growers, as well as how it could strengthen the local economy.

Chairman Jagat Singh Negi mentioned that the Government of Himachal Pradesh is also considering legalizing cannabis farming, and a detailed study and report will be submitted before a decision is made.

Negi highlighted that subtropical areas are ideal for cannabis cultivation and that wild animals pose no threat to the crop. The government aims to maximize the industrial and medicinal use of cannabis while ensuring high-quality cultivation in the state.

Prior to the farm visit, the committee met with Uttarakhand's Forest and Higher Education Minister, Subodh Uniyal, to gain valuable insights and guidance.

Other attendees during the visit included Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sunder Singh Thakur, MLAs Dr. Hans Raj, Surender Shourie, Keval Singh Pathania, Dr. Janak Raj, Puran Chand Thakur, and representatives from the cannabis cultivation farm.
