Portal of NHAI Shimla tunnel collapsed

Shimla: Due to heavy rains and weak strata of the hills,  the portal of the  under-construction tunnel near Shimla collapsed earlier today due to loose strata, according to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

The incident occurred along the stretch of the Dhalli-Kathlighat part of the Shimla- Chandigarh fourlane highway, which has been undergoing extensive construction and upgrades to improve connectivity.

Fortunately, no loss of life has been reported in the collapse.

Emergency response teams have been dispatched to the site to assess the damage and ensure safety measures are in place.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse, focusing on the structural integrity of the surrounding area.

The tunnel was part of a major infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion and reducing travel time to Shimla, a popular tourist destination from Chandigarh.

Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
