Meeting SDC Fand UD in Dehradun on plastic banks

Dehradun: Dehradun-based SDC Foundation is gearing up to take its Plastic Bank campaign to several urban areas across Uttarakhand, thanks to support from the Urban Development Directorate (UDD).

If all goes well, these community-driven plastic banks could soon be a common sight in many cities across the state.

In a recent meeting held by the UDD in Dehradun, Anoop Nautiyal, founder of the SDC Foundation, shared the success of their Plastic Bank initiative, which has already seen over 130 banks set up in Dehradun in the past six months.

The campaign is making waves in local schools, Maggi points, hostels, and other institutions, engaging more than 25,000 students and various community members in plastic waste collection and recycling.

Nautiyal's presentation emphasized the importance of community involvement in tackling plastic waste.

He explained how the campaign promotes awareness, segregation, and recycling, and called for schools, shops, offices, and government bodies to get involved.

The UDD and other participants from Dehradun, Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Tehri, and Pauri showed strong interest in the campaign and its potential to improve waste management across the state.

Key officials from the UDD and representatives from 30 municipal bodies attended the meeting and discussed how the Plastic Bank campaign could be rolled out on a larger scale.

With a solid track record in Dehradun, the SDC Foundation is ready to assist other municipalities in setting up their own plastic banks and ramping up efforts to curb plastic pollution in Uttarakhand.
